We have all experienced trouble falling or staying asleep at some point in our lives. But did you know that the amount of daylight you are exposed to during the day could have an impact on your sleep at night?
Sleep Study Emphasizes Workplace Benefits
According to a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, architectural design of office environments should place more emphasis on sufficient daylight exposure for workers to support their productivity, health and well-being.
Let the Light Shine Through
Daylighting has become a popular term in recent years, and it refers to the act of letting outside light in through windows and skylights that are strategically placed throughout a space. While a great idea for new construction, older buildings often must work with the location and number of windows they currently have. Many companies struggle with finding the right balance between letting the beneficial rays of the sun in and sheltering employees from annoying glare and harmful UV radiation.
Window Film Offers Workplace Solution
Window film is an easy retrofit solution to this dilemma; it allows you to enjoy the benefits of the sun while filtering out the damaging and bothersome rays. And according to this new study, being able to open those blinds in your office and let in the sunlight will directly benefit your nighttime sleep and ultimately your productivity.
Darrell Smith, executive director of the International Window Film Association, explained in the organization’s press release, “Letting in abundant daylight into offices is very much desired, but may present a real problem for those who don’t want to have harmful UV rays, glare and hotspots negatively impacting their workers’ comfort and health”, said Smith. Despite the myths that window film makes indoor spaces dark, window films can let in ample natural sunlight without the downside risks of harmful UV rays that can damage the skin and eyes, cause hotspots, glare and lead to higher energy costs,” he added.
