Top 5 Benefits of Having Your Car Tinted

You take care of your car’s engine with regular tune-ups and maintenance, but have you thought about the care of your car’s windows? You may think of window film, also called window tint, as just an aesthetic enhancement, but it also provides long-lasting functional benefits to protect you and your vehicle.

1. Fade Reduction

Fade ReductionYour car is a valuable asset that you want to last as long as possible. Having window tinting professionally installed on your vehicle is a great way to protect your investment. Window film blocks harsh sunshine that can fade upholstery and discolor leather and vinyl. It protects car interiors from cracking and warping to keep your car looking newer longer. Window tinting also blocks windshield glare to decrease eye fatigue from direct sun and bright nighttime headlights.

2. UV Ray Blockage

UV Ray BlockageCar window tinting can block up to 99% of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays that can accelerate skin aging and cause skin cancer. Even clear window film or a light tint can block out both damaging UVA and UVB rays. Research shows that 53% of skin cancers in the U.S. occur on the left side of the body, which correlates to the driver’s side of a car. For people who drive for extended periods of time, window film protection provides a critical advantage to safeguard against this risk.

3. Solar Heat Rejection

Solar Heat RejectionIf you’ve battled finding the right level of air conditioning for all of your passengers, window tinting can help resolve that dilemma. Depending on the grade, window film can block anywhere from 35-65% of the solar heat that builds up in a car. You can balance climate and comfort for everyone and cut down fuel consumption from air conditioning overuse.

4. Shattered Glass Protection

Shattered Glass ProtectionThe safety benefits of installing window film on your car cannot be underestimated. Window film is designed to keep glass from shattering if an object hits it. In the event of a car accident, passengers are protected from flying glass shards and from being ejected through windows. Additionally, thieves will find it difficult to break through tinted glass and get into your car.

5. Privacy and Security

Privacy and SecurityWindow tinting comes in a wide range of shading to provide a level of privacy for you and your passengers as you go down the road. When you park the car, you can walk away and know that prying eyes cannot see your valuables inside.

The benefits of installing window tint include more than simply improving the look of your car. It can add to your peace of mind when you want to protect your vehicle and those who travel with you.

  21. Great list! I’ve been thinking about getting my windows tinted ever since I bought my new car. When I was younger, my dad always insisted on getting my car windows tinted. It’s true that the privacy is nice. Tinting is also a great way to keep the sun out of your car. Take it from me, that definitely comes in handy (especially if your AC doesn’t work). • Thanks for reading our blog! Window tint does help in preserving the car in the sense that it reduces the chances of fading on the car’s interior furniture.

  29. I like what this article mentions about fade reduction. Along with the other benefits, I think this could be one of my favorite, as I often get in my car and the leather seats are almost too hot to sit on. I think using tints to cool them down and reduce the fading of the black, along with a few seat covers would be a great way of increasing the comfort of the car while preserving the value. Thanks for sharing, this is definitely something I’ll have to keep in mind.

  30. I like window tinting on cars because it keeps the UV rays out of your car and it also helps to keep the car cool on a really hot day. I know it doesn’t keep the car from heating up but it is better than being hot all the time. I hope that I can get new tinting done so I can have a cooler car.

  31. I was aware of some of the benefits of window tint, but I’d never thought about how it would protect the glass in the case of it shattering. I’ve always liked the idea of increased privacy and security, but it seems like there’s more to tinting that just that. I’m thinking about tinting my windows, and now the list of pros is longer! Thanks for sharing.

  32. It seems like having my windows tinted can help to keep my car cooler during the summer. I think your point about how it can also prevent my windshield from shattering is also really useful to know. Having a window film over my glass that can keep it from shattering would be really useful, especially when I’m driving on the freeway. Would my glass still be susceptible to small cracks and chips when something flies into my windshield? You said that window films can prevent glass from shattering, so I would like to know if it can prevent rocks of almost any size from creating small chips.

    • Window film is always installed on the interior of glass in the U.S. and not allowed on the windshield as it does not comply with state tint laws, so film is not going to protect against flying rocks and chips on your windows.

Paint Protection Film will help prevent damage to paint surfaces because it is a barrier between your paint and flying debris.

Outside the U.S., on the other hand, we are aware that film is applied to the exterior of glass and in that case, it would offer minimal protection.

  33. I always thought that the main reason to get your window tinted was for the additional privacy that tinted windows gives. The additional benefits of heat reduction and blocking ultraviolet rays makes getting commercial window tinting done a very smart decision. It is hard to think of other services that give such a range of benefits with minimal cost.

  34. Where I live, it get so hot during the summer. It doesn’t help that my new car has a black interior. That’s amazing that window film and tinting can block anywhere from 35-65% of the solar heat that builds up in a car. I might have to look into getting my windows professionally tinted before summer hits.

  35. Car tint is usually installed for one or two main reasons depending on the personal preferences and needs of the owner. However, there are many additional benefits to tint that not many car owners have considered and which make tint an all-round amazing idea no matter which way you look at it.

  39. I really like the benefits that you’ve listed here in the article because it really is a shame how many people think window-tinting is just an aesthetic thing. I especially like that you bring up the safety benefits of window tinting and how it can actually jeep you safe during a crash by catching the glass before it is ejected. That kind of protection is a great way to increase your chances of surviving a crash since you don’t have to worry about glass shards flying everywhere.

  40. The biggest reason I want a window tint is to prevent fading. The seats in my last car faded so much and it never looked as good as it used to. I like that window tints can help prevent the sun from damaging everything inside my car! That way I don’t have to get seat covers!

  41. Most people think tinted windows are just to make your car look better – great breakdown of all the other benefits! UV rays are a biggy for me at 45+ 🙂
